Overview 

This workshop is designed for recently graduated engineering professionals to equip them with practical communication skills for use mainly on site. Conducted over two consecutive days for 8-12 participants, it is designed to develop their confidence in asking appropriate questions when communicating and actively listening, both face to face and over the telephone. Clear and concise day to day written communication skills are developed through active participation while client needs and requirements are addressed. Supported by exercises, case studies and video clips, professionalism and confidence is encouraged and developed over the two days

Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will have developed skills to:

  • Verbally communicate with sub-contractors, site management and staff in a clear and unambiguous way.
  • Undertake effective preparation and present professionally, using basic aids and media.
  • Write day to day communications using correct language, format and grammar.

Trainer Profile

Penny Withey will be facilitating the workshop. 

 

Penny holds a BA in Economics and Psychology from the University of Cape Town, a Diploma in Training from the IPM (South African equivalent of the CIPD) and a post graduate diploma in Industrial Relations from Stellenbosch Graduate School of Business. She has extensive experience in training time management skills gained from her management experience as the HR Manager of a large retail organisation in . 

 

Penny has also run numerous similar workshops in both the academic and corporate sector.
